Starts at Morrisound as a night assistant while studying engineering at the University of South Florida, engineers Leprosy in 1988 and takes his first producer credit on Slowly We Rot in 1989. Between 1987 and 1997 he produces or engineers more than a hundred extreme metal albums by around seventy bands, among them Sepultura, Napalm Death, Suffocation, Gorguts, Pestilence, Cancer, Cynic, Atheist, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide and Obituary, and pigeonholed as the death metal guy he leaves for a programming career. Glen Benton calls him the George Martin of death metal. The Scott Burns Sessions (Decibel Books, 2023) is the account of those years.
